Long e can be spelled more than one way. This list helps second graders compare ee and ea in familiar words without asking them to discover a rule that does not exist.
The list groups ee words such as tree, feet, and sleep before ea words such as eat, team, and beach. Children learn to keep both vowel letters and use a familiar word as a spelling anchor. The linked Skill page explains these patterns in more depth.
How to practice this list
Sort the words under ee or ea, then dictate a mixed set. Ask your child to underline the vowel team and compare an uncertain spelling with a known word such as keep or team.
A child may write only one vowel or choose the other long-e team. Calmly confirm that the sound is right, show the correct anchor word, and invite the child to revise the vowel team rather than rewrite the whole word.
Move on when your child can spell the words in mixed order, keep both vowel letters, and use a familiar example to correct an occasional ee/ea mix-up.
