What to notice when spelling these words

Listen through the short words

In arm, the letters ar work together before final m. Leg has a short e between l and g. In hand, listen for both consonants in the ending nd.

Compare the vowel spellings

Nose uses a final e to help spell its long o sound. The middle vowel sound in foot is written oo. Head sounds as though it has a short e, but its middle is written ea, while ears begins with ear. These letter pairs are useful parts to notice and remember.

Notes for particular words

eyes

Start with the singular word eye: e-y-e. Add s to spell the plural eyes without dropping the final e.
