What to notice when spelling these words

Five short words use one letter for each sound

In bug, cat, dog, hen, and pig, listen for a beginning sound, a short vowel, and an ending sound. Say the word slowly and write the three letters in the same order as the sounds.

Two endings use a pair of letters

The ending sound in duck is written ck. The ending sound in fish is written sh. Keep each pair together when spelling the word.

Listen for both sounds at the start of frog

The word frog begins with the blend fr. Stretch the beginning so you can hear f and r, then spell the rest with short o and final g.
